The newly elected President of the country, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has stated that he will not be reimbursing the cost of flyovers built on federal government roads by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State. According to our reporter, Tinubu made this announcement during the commissioning of the 12th flyover project in Port Harcourt, which was executed by Governor Wike.
In his address, Governor Wike had requested that Tinubu refund the cost of the projects carried out on the federal government’s roads once he takes office as President on May 29. Wike mentioned that he had already prepared a letter requesting the refund for the incoming governor of the state, Siminialaye Fubara, which he would sign and ask the President to approve.
Tinubu responded to Wike’s demand by stating that he did not owe the governor anything, emphasizing that the people of Rivers State were the ones using the roads. He commended Governor Wike’s efforts but insisted that Wike had to lobby him for any refund.
Tinubu said, “I owe you nothing for the 12 flyovers and the demands you made for a refund. It’s your road. You can’t come to me and make demands while chuckling. You are the one using the road. I commend your efforts, but you have to lobby me.”
