Sudan Conflict: First Batch Evacuees Arrive Lagos

The first group of Sudanese evacuees who were airlifted from Egypt arrived in Nigeria, Wednesday night.

These evacuees had arrived at the Argeen border in Egypt on April 26 and were delayed due to formalities issued by the Egyptian authorities. The delay was explained by a Nigerian official in an audio sent to the Nigerian in the Diaspora Commission Situation Room on Wednesday. The official revealed that 376 Nigerians were supposed to be airlifted by two aircraft, Air Peace and NAF C130, but 26 additional individuals had sneaked onto the buses. The Egyptian personnel refused to let the 26 people stay at the airport or go back to the border, leaving the only option to overload the aircraft. The Air Peace plane eventually arrived with 278 passengers, and the NAF C130 arrived with 98 passengers at 11:35pm and 11:55pm, respectively.
