We Were Sexually Harassed – Sudan Returnees Share other Harrowing Experiences

A group of students from Sudan recently shared harrowing experiences they endured during their journey back to the country amid the ongoing conflict. One female student, who spoke to the BBC Hausa Service, described the journey as “excruciating” and emphasized the physical toll it took on them. She mentioned that their legs had become swollen due to the extended periods they had to spend sitting in the buses.

Another female student also shared similar concerns about the physical discomfort they had to endure during the journey. Meanwhile, a male student described the experience as terrible, stating that they were even forced to pay for the privilege of using a restroom.

The students expressed hope that the conflict in Sudan would come to an end soon so that they could return to the country to complete their studies. The male student specifically stated his desire to complete his remaining semester of studies and put the entire traumatic experience behind him.
