The Secretary-General of the Ohanaeze socio-cultural organization, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has stated that the Igbo community has moved on with President-elect, Bola Tinubu. Isiguzoro’s statement was made in response to a call against Tinubu by a group called Igbo Patriotic Forum and Elders Forum. The group had suggested that Tinubu should not be inaugurated as president until the tribunal decides the winner of the 2023 presidential election.
Isiguzoro condemned the call and urged Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to accept the outcome of the election in good faith. He further stated that the Ime-Obi had decided that Igbos should support Tinubu’s presidency until a court of competent jurisdiction decides otherwise.
Isiguzoro stressed, in an interview with an online news publication, Daily Post, that the organization would not allow any elements to pitch Igbos against the President-elect, and cautioned all stakeholders in the Igbo project to be careful of their utterances. He emphasized that the consequences of such actions would fall back on the shoulders of the Igbo populace, particularly traders, leaving outside Igbo speaking states, who are mainly in the Southwest, especially Lagos State.
Isiguzoro made it clear that Ohanaeze would attend Tinubu’s inauguration and would not pick a fight with the President-elect. The organization’s position, he said, was very clear, and they would continue to support whoever INEC declares as the president. Isiguzoro called on all the organization’s 52 affiliated bodies to end every agitation for the 2023 election as Ndigbo had moved on.
He charged Peter Obi to start building meaningful bridges ahead of the next election and cautioned against using this election to create enmity between the Igbo and Yoruba communities. He concluded by stating that nobody should pick up a fight they can’t finish against Tinubu, as Igbo traders across the country would feel the heat of such a proclamation by some so-called elders.
