In a strong stance, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a firm warning to the Federal Government, urging them to reconsider what they perceive as policies detrimental to the poor, within a seven-day timeframe.
One of the major grievances includes the recent hike in petrol pump prices. If the government fails to address their concerns, a nationwide strike will be initiated indefinitely, starting from August 2.
The decision was reached during the NLC’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on Tuesday, July 25, at Abuja Labour House.
Immediate and decisive action was deemed necessary by the NLC. Consequently, all of its affiliates and state councils have been instructed to begin mobilizing workers and other citizens, along with the support of civil society allies, for a sustained strike and mass protests if the government does not meet their demands.
The NLC’s ultimatum underscores the gravity of the situation and the unwavering determination of workers and citizens to have their voices heard and their grievances redressed. As the deadline approaches, the government faces mounting pressure to respond effectively to the concerns presented by the NLC.
The upcoming days are expected to be crucial in finding a resolution to the impasse.
