Senator Oshiomole Welcomes Representative from Italian Training Institutions, Extends Support for IYAMIDR Training Projects

Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomole has commended the collaboration between the Italian government and the Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration Immigration Development and Reintegration (IYAMIDR) in their efforts to address the growing issue of unemployment in Nigeria.

Oshiomole, a former governor of Edo State, expressed his appreciation after receiving a delegation from Italy led by Dr. Antonio Lovecchio, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Order of Malta Sovereign Order.

The Italian delegation facilitated training projects between IYAMIDR and the GOA Consulting Training Institute and Nino Bergesse Training Institution in Genova, Italy.

The training program, which will last between three to six months, will focus on various skills such as gas pipe welding, rail track installation and maintenance, yacht maintenance, scaffolding, catering, and safety management.

The aim is to bridge the unemployment gap among Nigerian youths and create opportunities that promote patriotism.

Oshiomole stated that if properly coordinated, this project could increase Nigeria’s GDP, boost the economy, and transition the country from a certificate-based economy to a skilled economy, which is the driving force behind developed countries today.

Dr. Antonio expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to use his influence to promote investment in Nigeria, particularly among the trained youths, upon their return from Italy.

The Italian Training Provider emphasized the importance of acquiring skills for securing good jobs, stating that many young Nigerians risk their lives crossing the Sahara desert and Mediterranean sea to reach Europe, only to face uncertain circumstances.

The project aims to address this issue at its root.

Solomon Okoduwa, the Executive Director of IYAMIDR, thanked Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomole for his continuous support and accepted his role as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for IYAMIDR Nigeria.

Okoduwa highlighted the positive impact Oshiomole had made during his tenure as governor of Edo State, supporting returned migrants, providing training, and creating job opportunities through programs like Edo YES and Neighbourhood Watch.

Okoduwa assured that the training program would be provided to participants at no cost.

The progress made so far sets the stage for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently signed with Genoa and Genova Consultant Training Institute to further enhance the capacity of Nigerian youth and boost the country’s economy in various sectors, thereby addressing unemployment and youth restiveness.
