FG Gives Stern Warning to Electricity Workers Over Labour’s Planned Strike

Over the weekend, the Federal Government issued a stern warning to electricity workers, cautioning them against damaging the national grid during strikes. This action, the government emphasized, not only constitutes a criminal offense but also undermines efforts to ensure a consistent power supply for Nigerians.
Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu emphasized that industrial actions can be conducted without disrupting or vandalizing the grid. Unauthorized entry into the National Control Centre is considered a serious crime and economic sabotage, warranting severe consequences. Adelabu urged for open dialogue, stating, “We need to engage in constructive discussions.”

Minister Adelabu revealed that during a recent two-day warning strike led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the government received reports of electricity workers attempting to breach the control center in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, with the intention of causing a nationwide power blackout. He delivered this message while addressing electricity workers at the sub-regional office of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in Osogbo.
