In the lead-up to the February 3rd bye-election for Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency, Hon. Olalekan Bada, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, has extended an invitation to civil society organizations (CSOs) and election observers nationwide, urging them to monitor the election process in Akoko.

“Our democracy’s progress hinges on transparent elections,” stated Prince Oluseyi Sanni, Director of Media and Publicity for the Hon. Olalekan Bada Campaign Organisation, in a statement released in Ikare on Sunday. “Inviting CSOs and observers to monitor the election will shed light on any abuses of power and institutions by political officeholders.”

Sanni also highlighted concerns over alleged interference in the primary election process by Mr. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, the embattled Minister of Interior, and urged vigilance from all concerned Nigerians.

“We encourage foreign observers to witness how taxpayer funds may be misused for personal gain and how government officials attempt to influence the political landscape,” stressed Sanni.

Meanwhile, with the election drawing closer, the PDP has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard bearer, Mr. Ife Ehindero, to a public debate on the merits of their candidacies for the constituency seat.

“A public debate will empower constituents to make informed decisions,” asserted Prince Sanni. “We propose that the debate be facilitated by the Department of Political Science at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, as part of their social responsibility program.”

Sanni emphasized the importance of inviting representatives from various sectors, including organized labor, civil society, market women associations, and students, to participate in the debate and engage with the candidates directly.
