Tragic Gas Explosion in Lagos State Injures Pregnant Woman and Eight Others

“In a tragic turn of events, a gas explosion in Lagos State has left several individuals injured, including a pregnant woman,” stated Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. “Nine individuals, including children and adults, suffered varying degrees of burn injuries due to the explosion.”

The incident, which occurred around the Ajegunle-Apapa area, was attributed to a gas leakage igniting a high-tension cable, causing a fire outbreak. “The victims are currently receiving treatment at the Ajeromi General Hospital and Gbagada Burnt & Trauma Centre,” Adeseye confirmed.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reported that the explosion damaged four commercial tricycles, six lock-up shops, and a section of a residential bungalow. However, prompt intervention by firefighters salvaged nearby structures, including a critical fuel service station, mitigating further losses.
