Federal Government Targets Local Production of 18m Tons of Fish, see list of states to benefit


The federal government’s poverty alleviation and entrepreneurship program aims to produce 18 million tons of fish, with 15 million designated for export. Additionally, 368 empowerment machines have been distributed to women in 15 states, covering all six geopolitical zones. Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy- Ohanenye, highlighted the initiative’s focus on empowering women, particularly those below the poverty line, with tools like garri processing machines and industrial sewing machines. The government encourages Nigerians to register on their portal for equipment distribution. Talks are underway with various sectors, including the military, education, and agriculture, to provide security and resources for more women empowerment projects. By promoting inclusivity and agricultural ventures, the government aims to increase food production and lower prices, addressing the challenge of food insecurity. Anambra, Kano, Rivers, Imo, Lagos, Oyo, Katsina, Gombe, Kebbi, Adamawa, Ebonyi, Niger, Bayelsa, Benue, and Jigawa are the beneficiary states of these initiatives.
