Reports from Italy suggest that Liverpool has entered the competition alongside Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Arsenal in pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen for the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool’s interest in Osimhen is driven by their need to strengthen their attacking lineup, particularly due to the underperformance of Darwin Núñez. Núñez, who joined Anfield in 2022, has struggled this season, scoring only 11 goals in 33 Premier League appearances.
With concerns over Núñez’s form and a recent goal drought, Liverpool views Osimhen as a potential upgrade to lead their frontline.
Despite PSG being the favorites, Osimhen reportedly has a strong desire to play in the Premier League, offering Liverpool hope in securing his signature.
However, acquiring Osimhen would come with a hefty price tag for Liverpool, as they would need to trigger his €130 million release clause, slightly less than PSG’s previous offer. Napoli’s chairman, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has shown resistance to bids, emphasizing the high valuation placed on Osimhen.
The 25-year-old Nigerian, who signed a new contract in December with a release clause, seems poised to depart Napoli in the summer after an impressive Serie A season, scoring 14 goals and providing three assists in 22 league games despite facing injuries.
