Three Nigerian Women Get Freedom After Arrest in Saudi Arabia for Drug Trafficking

The Nigerians were detained on March 5, 2024, at Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, and were released after spending 10 months in custody.

Their release followed extensive diplomatic and legal efforts, which resulted in their acquittal and discharge. They were then handed over to the Nigerian Consulate-General in Jeddah.

“The women were warmly received by Ambassador Muazam Nayaya, Consul-General of Nigeria in Jeddah, and are currently awaiting the necessary immigration procedures before returning to Nigeria to reunite with their families,” the statement added.
They were arrested over suspicions of having connections with two other Nigerians earlier apprehended for being in possession of hard drugs. However, authorities were unable to connect them with the crimes, after the Nigerian government stepped in.
