Residents of a Nottinghamshire town in England are baffled by a mysterious monthly ritual involving a plate of peeled bananas left at a street corner for over a year.
Clare Short, a resident of Beeston, shared the strange occurrence with the BBC, noting that every second day of the month, an unknown individual places a plate of peeled bananas at the junction of Abbey Road and Wensor Avenue, opposite a local church.
“The phenomenon started more than a year ago, and the reason behind it remains a mystery,” Short explained.
In hopes of ending the puzzling practice, Short placed a sign at the site: “Please, respectfully, no more bananas! The uncollected plates and rotting bananas leave such a mess. Wishing a happy new year to you all.”
Despite the sign, the first plate of 2024 appeared on January 2.
“I’ve asked around the community, but no one knows who’s responsible or why it’s happening,” she said.
Speculation among residents ranges from a possible offering for wildlife to a religious gesture tied to the nearby church, though no definitive answers have emerged.
