Durosinlorun, Tifase, Bamkole Triumph at Lagos Country Club’s 2nd Geophase Squash Tournament

Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos Country Club Squash Section successfully hosted the 2nd edition of the Geophase Annual Closed & Club Pro Tournament, bringing together former and current professional squash players for an exciting competition. Held from February 24 to 28, 2025, the event attracted club professionals who once played for a living, alongside over 40 members of the club’s Squash Section.

Sponsored by Geophase Resources Limited, the tournament reaffirmed the company’s commitment to developing squash in Nigeria. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dr. Waliu Kayode Adeolu, Managing Director of Geophase, emphasized the importance of recognizing past squash champions while fostering growth for the next generation.

“At Geophase, we believe in honoring those who have carried Nigeria’s squash legacy while also supporting the sport’s future. This tournament is a platform to celebrate them and ensure they remain actively involved in the game,” Dr. Adeolu stated.

Thrilling Performances and Champions Crowned

The tournament featured multiple competitive categories, delivering intense action:

  • Club Ex-Pro Category: Yusuf Durosinlorun emerged victorious, defeating Oladimeji Adebowale in the final. Seun Peters and Wasiu Bello secured joint third place.
  • Men’s Closed Category: Dayo Tifase claimed the top spot, beating Niyi Ibrahim, with Udoh Nkana and Taiwo Sanni finishing joint third.
  • Veteran Closed Category: Funmi Bamkole triumphed over Udoh Nkana in the final, while Murphy Yusuf and Deji Sule shared third place.
  • Plate Closed Category: Marvin Ukperegbu took home the trophy, overcoming Aare Bayo Sodade in the final. ‘Semoore Badejo and Sunny Obaze finished joint third.
