The Department of State Services (DSS) has recaptured Abdulazeez Obadaki, a top commander of the Ansaru terrorist group, believed to have masterminded the August 7, 2012, mass shooting at Deeper Life Bible Church in Okene, Kogi State. Obadaki, also known as “Bomboy,” was arrested after escaping from Kuje Custodial Centre in July 2022.
“DSS operatives, acting on a well-oiled intelligence operation, tracked and recaptured the fugitive popularly known as Bomboy on Friday morning, ending more than three years of his evasion of security agencies,” according to security sources.
The attack on Deeper Life Bible Church left 19 worshippers dead, including the pastor, and several others injured. Obadaki is also believed to have orchestrated another attack on five commercial banks in Uromi, Edo State, which resulted in the deaths of policemen and bank customers, and the loss of hundreds of millions of Naira.
“This arrest comes barely two months after the secret police arraigned five suspects linked to the 2022 Catholic Church attack in Owo, Ondo State,” said a security source.
The DSS has been recording successes in capturing terrorists and criminal elements across Nigeria, with its new leadership fast-tracking the trial of arrested suspects.
