Nigerian man to be extradited to UK over murder and drug allegations
A Nigerian national, Matthew Chukwuemeka Adebiyi, is to be extradited to the United Kingdom to face trial over allegations of murder and drug-related offences.
Authorities say the request for his surrender came from British officials, who are investigating two separate complaints involving homicide and narcotics. The federal government approved the move after determining that the alleged offences are recognised under both Nigerian and British law.
Adebiyi’s lawyers had argued against the extradition, citing concerns about his health and claiming the request could affect his rights. However, officials maintained that the conditions for his transfer had been met.
With the decision now in place, arrangements are expected to be made for Adebiyi to be handed over to British authorities, where he will stand trial on the charges.
