In a fresh push to rebuild public trust and clamp down on rogue officers, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has rolled out upgrades to its Complaint Response Unit (CRU)—the primary digital platform for receiving, tracking, and resolving public grievances.
The newly appointed Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Anietie Okokon Edem, disclosed this during a familiarization visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council in Abuja.
Edem urged media professionals across the country to partner with the police in shining a spotlight on ongoing internal reforms, ensuring citizens know exactly how and where to report officer misconduct.

Key Highlights of the CRU Upgrade

  • 24/7 Citizen Support: The unit remains active around the clock to process allegations of extortion, harassment, professional misconduct, and human rights abuses nationwide.
  • Faster Turnaround Times: System upgrades are designed to drastically reduce response delays and boost real-time tracking of filed cases.
  • Transparent Outcomes: The initiative, driven by the Inspector-General of Police’s reform roadmap, promises full public clarity on disciplinary actions taken against erring personnel.
  • Zonal Media Expansion: Plans are already underway for an upcoming media parley with Zone 7 to deepen grassroots police-media synergy.

Emphasizing the vital role of the press in democratic policing, CSP Edem highlighted that constructive collaboration between law enforcement and the media is essential to bridge the gap between the force and the Nigerian public.

“Journalists are part of the police family. Informed reporting will help the public hold institutions accountable while supporting constructive reform.”

Receiving the police delegation, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, commended CSP Edem’s proactive approach and welcomed the enhancements to the CRU.
Ike assured that journalists in the nation’s capital and beyond stand ready to amplify citizens’ complaints and closely track CRU investigations, ensuring every reported case receives the public scrutiny it deserves.

“The media will continue to serve as the voice of the people. We will highlight these digital avenues so Nigerians know their rights and where to turn when police officers step out of line.”
