President has paid a solemn tribute to troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai who were killed in a coordinated terrorist assault on their base in Benisheikh, , describing them as brave patriots whose sacrifice will endure in the nation’s memory.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of April 9, 2026, was confirmed by the Defence Headquarters and left several soldiers dead following a fierce confrontation with insurgents.
In a statement released on Thursday, the President expressed deep condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and the Nigerian Armed Forces, urging them to remain steadfast in the face of the tragic loss.
He commended the courage and resilience of the troops, noting that their resistance prevented the attackers from advancing into surrounding communities. According to him, the assault reflects growing desperation among terrorist groups amid sustained military offensives.
Leading national tributes, Tinubu specifically honoured the memory of Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah and other fallen officers, assuring that their deaths would not be in vain.
“Our armed forces have intensified both land and air operations, neutralising several insurgents and key commanders. This attack is a sign of pressure on them,” the President stated.
He further called on military personnel across all theatres of operation to remain resolute, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening operational capacity and improving the welfare of troops on the frontlines.
The President also urged Nigerians and the media to support the military, cautioning against narratives that could diminish the sacrifices of service members.
“These are not just soldiers; they are heroes whose courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten,” he said.
Tinubu extended his sympathies to the government and people of Borno State, pledging continued collaboration to restore lasting peace and bring an end to insurgency in the region.
