The Chairman of the , , has stirred fresh political debate after describing supporters of as “monsters,” warning that their conduct could undermine his chances in the 2027 presidential election.
In a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Dabiri-Erewa said Obi must take responsibility for the actions of his loyal supporters, popularly known as “Obidients.”
She argued that the behaviour of the group, if left unchecked, could become a liability to the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s political ambitions.
“Peter Obi has raised monsters,” she wrote, adding that the supporters could ironically become his downfall if he fails to rein them in.
Despite backlash that followed her remarks, the NiDCOM boss stood by her position, reiterating that unchecked excesses among Obi’s supporters could negatively impact his political future.
Dabiri-Erewa also defended her engagement with critics on social media, maintaining that her status as a public official does not prevent her from responding to online attacks.
“This is my personal account,” she stated, questioning why she should remain silent in the face of what she described as “toxic” criticism.
The controversy followed reactions from Obi’s supporters to an earlier post in which she highlighted her meeting with Nigerian professionals in Silicon Valley, California, and the role of the diaspora in national development.
The exchange has since generated widespread reactions across political circles, reflecting rising tensions and early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
