The United States has praised Nigeria’s recent push to fast-track terrorism prosecutions, describing the conviction of 386 militants as a significant breakthrough in the country’s fight against extremism.

In a statement, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President on Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, said the mass convictions – coming after years of prolonged judicial delays – demonstrate Nigeria’s growing resolve to address terrorism through structured and lawful means.

Boulos noted that the swift handling of terrorism-related cases is critical to strengthening justice delivery, adding that transparent and efficient legal processes are key to building public confidence in the system.

He further emphasized that adherence to the rule of law remains essential to Nigeria’s long-term stability and security, while reaffirming Washington’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at improving judicial effectiveness and fairness.

The large-scale convictions are seen as a major milestone in Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts, particularly in the North-East, where insurgent groups have continued to pose a persistent threat to national security.
