The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports suggesting that Governor has been asked to resign on health grounds, describing the claims as false, misleading, and without any basis.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, , refuted a report published by which alleged that the governor had been directed to step down, paving the way for his deputy to take over.
Akosile maintained that the governor remains “in good health, of sound mind, and fully engaged” in the discharge of his responsibilities, stressing that there has been no directive or plan for him to vacate office.
He explained that the presence of the Deputy Governor, , at the Government House earlier in the day was merely a routine political engagement. According to him, Hamzat had paid a courtesy visit to formally notify the governor of his intention to contest the governorship in the future, a move he described as consistent with established democratic practices.
The state government further accused Sahara Reporters of a recurring pattern of publishing unverified and misleading information, noting that while such reports are often ignored, the latest claim warranted an official response to prevent public confusion.
“We advise members of the public to disregard the story and treat it as fake news,” the statement said.
The rebuttal comes at a time of heightened political activity in Lagos, as early manoeuvrings and alignments ahead of the next governorship race begin to take shape.
