Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has disclosed that elder statesman and former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma, endorsed his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting the move was neither sudden nor financially motivated.

The governor made the remarks on Thursday while briefing State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Kefas firmly dismissed widespread speculation that monetary inducements influenced his defection, describing claims of a “cash-for-defection” arrangement as baseless political rumours.

“No one offered me money to join the APC,” he said, stressing that the decision was guided solely by personal conviction and what he considered the long-term interests of Taraba State.

According to him, consultations preceded the political switch, including discussions with respected national figures such as General Danjuma, whose counsel and support he said were important in shaping his final decision.

The governor expressed confidence in his new political alignment, noting that membership of the ruling party would create stronger channels of engagement with the Federal Government and accelerate development initiatives in Taraba.

He added that his administration remains focused on attracting greater federal collaboration and investment aimed at improving infrastructure and economic opportunities across the state.
