A High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has affirmed the legality of the 2025 National Elective Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), validating the emergence of Dr. Kabiru Turaki as the party’s National Chairman alongside other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Justice Ladiran Akintola delivered the ruling on Friday in Suit No. I/1336/2025, granting all 13 reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, through his counsel, Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN).

In the judgment, the court held that the convention substantially complied with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), and other relevant electoral regulations guiding political party processes in Nigeria.

Justice Akintola ruled that the procedures leading to the election of Turaki and the current NWC were lawful, valid, and binding on members of the party, thereby settling lingering disputes over the PDP’s national leadership.

The court further dismissed applications seeking to halt the proceedings and suspend the delivery of judgment. The motions, filed by Sunday Ibrahim (SAN) on behalf of Austin Nwachukwu and two others, were described as lacking merit and insufficient to obstruct the judicial process.

Earlier attempts by the same parties to be joined in the suit were also rejected, with the court declaring the application incompetent.

The judgment is expected to reinforce stability within the PDP leadership as the opposition party continues internal restructuring ahead of future electoral contests.

No official response had been issued by the defendants at the time of filing this report, although supporters of the current leadership have welcomed the ruling as a reaffirmation of due process within the party.
