The Federal High Court in Kaduna has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, , under strict conditions that reflect the seriousness of the charges against him.

In a ruling that has drawn widespread attention, the court set bail at ₦200 million, with two sureties required to justify the amount. One of the sureties must provide a valid Certificate of Occupancy for landed property, while the other must be a recognised elder in Kaduna State, subject to verification by the Kaduna State Council of Elders.
Beyond the financial requirements, the court imposed tight restrictions on public commentary. El-Rufai and his legal team have been barred from granting media interviews or making public statements on the case until the trial is concluded – an order aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the judicial process.
The court also directed the former governor to report to the (ICPC) on the first day of every month. In addition, he was ordered to surrender his international passport, effectively restricting his ability to travel outside the country.
The stringent bail conditions come amid an ongoing legal battle involving allegations of corruption and financial misconduct. Legal observers note that the court’s firm stance underscores both the high profile of the defendant and the sensitivity of the case.
The matter has been adjourned for further hearing, as attention now shifts to how proceedings will unfold in the coming weeks.
